Candidates file for school, city elections

Sept. 19 was the deadline for candidates to file petitions to run for school board and city elections, set for Tuesday, Nov. 5. 

The following candidates are set to appear on the ballot:

Monticello 

Monticello Board of Education candidates include: John Schlarmann, running for re-election; and Amanda Brenneman, who’s running for Dave Melchert’s seat. 

Monticello Mayor Brian Wolken is running for re-election, unopposed. 

Chris Lux, Council Ward 3 is running for re-election, unopposed. 

Council Ward 2 appointee Candy Langerman is running to fill the remainder of the four-year term. Her opponent is Brandon Hunter. 

Council At-large incumbent Brenda Hanken is running for re-election. Her opponent is Steve Hanken. 

There are no candidates running for Council Ward 1. Current seat holder Rob Paulsen is not seeking re-election.

Anamosa 

There are three candidates running for the mayoral seat: Incumbent Dale Barnes, Aaron Alderson, and Rodney Smith. 

Five candidates are running for three Council at At-large seats: Incumbent Richard Crump, Galen Capron, Dean Eilers, Jeff Stout, and Alan Zumbach. 

Martelle 

Current mayor, David Fountain, is seeking re-election. He’s running unopposed. 

Three candidates are running for three Council At-large seats: Incumbent Jan James, incumbent Edward Smith, and Diane Fountain. 

Gary Darrow is running for Council At-large to fill a vacancy. 

Morley 

William Roller is seeking the mayoral seat, running unopposed. 

Three candidates are running for five Council At-large seats: Incumbent Linda Jackson, Bob Osborn, and Rebecca AnnStivers. 

Olin 

Current mayor, Zach Borst, is seeking re-election. His opponent is Chris Shinker. 

Four candidates are running for three Council At-large seats: Incumbent Matthew Dicken, incumbent David Dircks, incumbent Kahm Sauer, and Katie Bassett. 

Onslow 

Appointee Russ Benke is seeking the full-term of the mayoral seat. 

Six candidates are running for three Council At-large seats: Appointee Marilyn Gray, appointee Curtis Thornhill, Betty Jordan, Layne Martens, Harold McCormick, Jr., and Penny Wehde. 

Joseph Paulsen is running for Council At-large to fill a vacancy. 

Oxford Junction 

Two mayoral candidates are running against one another: Incumbent Merle Tank and Kristina Stevenson. 

Incumbent Matt Nierling is running for one of two Council At-large seats. He is the only candidate. 

Wyoming 

Incumbent Steven Agnitsch is seeking re-election for mayor. 

Two candidates are running for two Council At-large seats: Incumbent Craig Taylor and Kevin Leonard.
