Jeff Carlson of Monticello was one of four Iowa High School Boys Basketball Tournament players selected to receive an Iowa Bankers Association Student Athlete Achievement Award for 2020.

Carlson, who graduated from Monticello High School this past spring, received a $1,000 scholarship as the selection from Class 2A. Scholarship recipients were selected based on their academic performance, athletic participation, leadership skills and community involvement.

Other scholarship recipients were: Class 1A, Isaac Gavin, Martensdale-St. Mary’s; Class 3A, Jared Keller, Center Point-Urbana; and Class 4A, Tate Crane, Iowa City West.

The student athletes were scheduled to be recognized during the State Boys Basketball Tournament in March, but due to tournament and spectator restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the presentationsl were postponed and rescheduled in the athletes’ home towns.

The IBA has awarded more than $265,000 in scholarships since the program’s inception.
