Central Park sets open house hours for winter vacation

OUTDOORS

Looking for a fun and educational family activity for winter vacation? Mark your calendars for the Central Park Nature Center Winter Vacation Open House, 9 AM – 2 PM, Wednesday, Dec. 26 and Thursday, Dec. 27.

Head out to Central Park to explore the Nature Center’s latest exhibits and activities. Meet some of the Nature Center live animals as they are being fed at 10 a.m. on the 26th. Make a pinecone birdfeeder to take home for your birds or give as a gift.

Bring your digital device and take our digital holiday scavenger hunt to win a cool prize. Don’t forget your outdoor gear – some of the scavenger hunt pics might require you to venture into the out-of-doors. While heading outside take a brisk winter hike or if snow allows borrow a pair of our snowshoes for some winter fun.

When you arrive or depart Central Park, take a drive around the park to check out our newly renovated boat ramp area, handicap accessible fishing pier and walkway, and beach area.

Before you go, don’t forget to enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and a cookie donated by conservation staff and the Friends of Jones County Conservation and Nature Center.

Check out the Jones County Conservation Board website at www.jonescountyiowa.org/conservation for directions to Central Park or information on current JCCB projects and programs.
