Chuck Hurt Sept. 17, 1945 – Aug. 9, 2018

      Chuck Hurt age 72, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018 at his home following an extended illness.

      Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon, Aug. 16, 2018 at the Holy Cross Cemetery, Anamosa.   Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. 

      Surviving are three children, Anne Hurt, Monticello, Christine Hurt, Cedar Rapids, and Charles Hurt Jr. Potosi, Wis., two grandchildren, Thomas and Chloe, four sisters, Jan Hoag, Monticello, Beverly (Dan) Prosser, Fallbrook, Calif., Nancy Gackle, East Helena, Mont., Susan Hurt, Mont., and Eugene Hurt,  Helena, Mont.  He is also survived by his companion, Karen Picray.  Many nieces and nephews also survive Chuck. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Cindy Williams, a brother, Robert Hurt and longtime companion Janet Rink.

      Charles Floyd Hurt was born Sept. 17, 1945 at Clinton, Iowa.   He was the son of Eugene Hurt and Anna Doran, Hurt.   Chuck attended the Sacred Heart Catholic School and the Monticello Community Schools graduating in 1966.  He worked at the Monti Theater and Camp O’ Delhi in the summers while in school.   He also worked at Koob’s Garage, the Sinclair Station and at K & P Chevrolet in Monticello.  In more recent years Chuck worked at Lewis Systems and bartended at The Grove in Scotch Grove.   

      In his youth, Chuck enjoyed many sports including baseball and track, swimming, fishing and hunting. He was a Boy Scout and always loved being out-of-doors. 

      As an adult he enjoyed camping with his family and friends, playing euchre and rummy, chess, pool, bowling, going to flea markets, and watching NASCAR. Throughout these days, Virginia Moncrief and Yolanda Dietrich journeyed with him as wives.

      The family would like to thank Dr. Sam Wood and the amazing team of caregivers at Hall-Perrine Cancer Center, the Jones Regional Medical Center Infusion Center staff and Dr. Phillip First and staff, who all became part of our family during Chuck’s 3-year battle with cancer.  Memorials may be directed to Jones Regional Medical Center Foundation, Anamosa, Iowa or Mercy Medical Center Foundation, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
