Coalition to host another forum on teen mental wellness
The Jones County Safe and Healthy Youth Coalition is hosting another listening forum in the county that is open to everyone. This will be held at the Anamosa High School Fine Arts Center on Tuesday, April 18, 5 to 8 p.m.
A free dinner will be provided during the resource fair, starting at 5 p.m.
At 6:30, a panel discussion with youth, a young adult, and therapists and counselors will be held discussing mental health and substance use. The event is similar to an event that was held in Monticello in March, but with some different panelists and different stories and even more resources related to mental health and substance use.
The resource fair will have free chair massages by Sandra Edmonds. Many agencies will be at the resource fair, including: Amerigroup, ASAC, Abbe Health, Children and Families of Iowa, CHADD (Children and Adults with ADHD), Community Partnership for Protecting Children (CPPC), CRUSH Recovery Community Center, HACAP/1st Five, Foundation 2, Jones County Public Health, Jones County Volunteer Center, Life Connections, Linn County NAMI, RISE Counseling and Consulting, Speak Out Against Suicide, Project SAFE, Living Undeterred, and the VA Suicide Prevention.
Panelists will include therapists from RISE and Health Hope Harmony, adults sharing their experience with youth marijuana use and mental health, Anamosa and Midland High School counselors, and a Jones County youth.
The Coalition will be giving away two $500 scholarships at the event. The youth must be present to win and all money will be paid directly to the college. The scholarship is open for 9-12-grade youth. The youth are responsible for giving their school information to receive the funds.
