Coalition taking donations for annual purse sale

The Jones County Safe and Healthy Youth Coalition is collecting gently used, fashionable purses and accessories again this year until June 15 for their seventh annual Coalition Purse and Accessory Sale Fundraiser. The event will take place Saturday, June 16.

The Coalition has a new location at 110 S. Williams St. in Anamosa, so items should be donated there or at Fidelity Bank in Anamosa. Monticello residents can drop off their purses or accessories at Michael’s Clothing again this year.

Accessories include: belts, scarves, and jewelry such as necklaces, bracelets, and rings. No shoes, please.

“We are already getting a lot of great purses, including some beautiful name-brand purses, but we could use many more purses and accessories so that we have as much variety as previous years,” said Jennifer Husmann, Coalition project coordinator.

The funds that are raised from the sale of donated purses and accessories will so to the Coalition to support its work on behalf of the youth of Jones County. The Coalition’s grant they have had for the past 10 years ends in September, so their financial need to keep working on reducing youth substance abuse is greater than ever before.

If you would like your donation picked up or want to make sure the office is open when you bring your donations, please call 319-462-4327 ext. 202.

The sale is being held at the Lawrence Community Center in Anamosa from 9-11 a.m. All purses will be sold for $10 each, first come first served. The accessories will generally be $5 each.
