College athletes: UNI's Isaac Holtz

TRACK AND FIELD

The Express review of former Monticello High School track and field athletes who are excelling in college concludes with a capsule look at Isaac Holtz, who also competed at the recent Drake Relays.

     Name: Isaac Holtz

     School: University of Northern Iowa.

     Year: Senior.

     Major: Pre-physical therapy.

Events: Discus, shot put, hammer throw.

Season highlights: Won the discus and the hammer throw at the Jim Duncan Invitational in Des Moines in March. Was selected as UNI’s male recipient of the Dr. Charlotte West Scholar-Athlete Award, recognizing outstanding achievement in academics, athletics, services and leadership.

Drake results: Finished 18th in the men’s shot put with a throw of 54-4.5.

Comments on Drake: “I didn’t end up throwing very well in the shot put. Then I woke up Saturday with the flu (and didn’t compete in the discus and hammer throw). It wasn’t how I was hoping things were going to go for my senior year at Drake, but sometimes things work out for the best. It gave me time to rest some nagging injuries.”

Season goals: “My main focus this year is the discus. I’ll try to throw as well as I can, and let that take me from there.”

On his college career coming to an end: “I just really haven’t thought about it. Nothing seems different. I’m just going to have tunnel vision until the season is done.”
