There was a moment during the Packers/Bears game when I decided that Green Bay should have spent less money re-signing Aaron Rodgers and upgraded the offensive line and maybe a new skill player or two. Maybe they could have even thrown some of that loot towards the defense.

And of course, I had to share my comments on social media so the entire world would know how I felt.

Then Rodgers comes back in the third quarter from what looked to be a potential season-ending injury and makes some great throws while directing the Packers to a come-from-behind win.

I think it is important to give some credit to both the offensive line and his wide receivers that also came up big in the second half of the game. I feel for Bear fans. I truly do. A couple of things go right for them and they win that game.

My guess is that lots of teams are looking forward to the day Aaron Rodgers retires, as the highest paid player in the NFL.

Hawkeyes sneak out a win versus ISU. So my Hawkeyes started out slow their first game of the season against Northern Illinois. They also didn’t light the world on fire offensively against Iowa State. Up next is lower level football neighbor UNI.

If the offense doesn’t figure out how to move the ball better, the Big Ten season could be a long one.

You also have wonder how much did it hurt ISU, not having that first game under their belt.

Cubs doing just enough. My Cubbies are having an up and down second half this season but they remain in first place. As of today (Monday) they are just 2 games in front of the Brewers, their opponent for the next three games.

Hopefully they can win a couple and start to widen their lead. If I had to pick the hottest NL team right now, I’m going with the Brewers, who are 8-2 over their last ten games.

I would really like to see more consistency in the Cubs lineup. No two days are alike when it comes to a Joe Maddon lineup. Maybe it’s time to pick eight guys and go with them. That’s just my opinion.

In case you want to know whom my eight would be: Murphy at second, Zobrist in right, Bryant in left, Baez at short, Rizzo at first, Bote at third, Contreras at catcher and Almora in center. I would bat them in that order as well.

The story of a missing father. I read an interesting story on ESPN.com last week. Kansas City Chiefs RB coach, Deland McCullough was adopted as an infant. He would eventually star as a high school running back in Ohio and play at Miami of Ohio. His recruiting coach was a man named Sherman Smith, a former NFL RB.

Both McCullough and Smith became very close, even though after one season Smith was hired at another university.

McCullough decided as an adult to locate his birth parents. He was successful in finding his mother. She agreed to tell him who his dad was. She was 16 when she gave birth and never told the dad she was pregnant.

The dad ended up being Sherman Smith. All these years they knew each other but had no idea they were father and son. When McCullough called to tell Smith the news he was shocked. At some point he graciously accepted it and it strengthened their relationship.

Now McCullough’s son is a defensive back for Miami of Ohio, just like Smith’s son who once played that position for the RedHawks too.
