Same old situation. I believe it’s a line from a Motley Crue song entitled by the same name. Then we have Aerosmith, who had a song called “Same Old Song and Dance.” In Aerosmith’s song, it goes: “It’s the same old story, the same old song and dance, my friend.”

The Crue’s version is: “It’s the same ol’, same ol’ situation, it’s the same ol’, the same ol’ ball and chain.” Okay, get to the point Mark. Where are you taking us with your music history lesson?

Sports! More specifically, Hawkeye football. Here is my take on the current situation. I am a fan, will always be a fan and try my darndest not to attack the Hawkeye student-athletes in public forums.

Then there is the coaching staff. Again, I am a fan of coach Ferentz and I have a deep belief in how he coaches the game, treats his players and staff and how he represents the University of Iowa.

Now we will take a peek at the other side of the fence. A segment of fans is asking for a new coaching staff. Be careful what you wish for. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side of that fence.

Many fans want a new offensive philosophy. Many want a new offensive coordinator. Many just complain to complain. I do not think we will ever see a different offensive philosophy as long as Coach Ferentz is at the helm. I’ve listened to other coaches critique the Iowa way and most all will tell you, if his system is working like it should, it is hard to stop.

So, what is the root of the problem slowing down the Hawkeyes from being a scoring machine? The offensive line is young, the quarterback will only be as good as the big uglies in front of him. That’s an issue.

The skill positions, most notably the wide receiver unit, may be missing a playmaker or two but for the most part have been injured before the season started. That will slow things down. Many will argue we need a change at the quarterback position but I’m not sure that will solve any problems.

If number two or number three are better I am guessing they would be playing.

Sunday I was reading through one of my Hawkeye Football forums I subscribe to and I can’t believe how many subscribers were dumping on these young men who are playing their hearts out. To be honest, it’s very embarrassing to witness.

One season ticket holder stated he was going to stop going to games until changes were made. I piped in I would gladly take his tickets off his hands. He never responded back.

It’s college football folks, you are personally trashing someone’s son every time you dump your abusive words on him. That’s just sad. I’m sure I’ll get some crap for my point of view but I am sticking with it. That’s my same ol’ song and dance!
