In this week’s Express and Shoppers’ Guide you will see a new feature that we hope to keep going for a while, unless COVID-19 suddenly goes away which would make us all happy. The feature is titled, “Front Line Workers” and it will be featuring four different community heroes. The program is being sponsored by Citizens State Bank.

If you have someone you would like to nominate, please email me a photo along with their title and place of employment. They should have ties to Monticello or Jones County. When I first mentioned on our Facebook page that I was looking for nominations in the medical field, first responders and police/sheriff and fire fighters, a few people mentioned many other jobs that require them to go to work, which we totally appreciate. I’ve got a staff myself doing that each week.

For now, we are going to concentrate on what I’ve mentioned above but we will see how the nominations go and we will not rule out the possibility of expanding to include the many others that go to work each day.

If you would like to send in a nomination please email it to me at: advertising@monticelloexpress.com. Thank you to Citizens State Bank for making this happen!

Speaking of our staff, I would like to publicly thank Kim and Pete for keeping us up to date on COVID-19 and finding great stories to tell our readers. I’d also like to thank Jill Cigrand for taking on the extra work in the design department and Rae Ann Manternach for doing everything she can to keep sales coming through our door while many businesses’ doors are locked.

Last but not least, I need to give Darcey a big thank you as well. She has taken on new responsibilities, teaching herself how to run our bookkeeping department plus a long list of other jobs that I have dropped on her lap. I would be lost without her.

Please everyone, be safe out there. I’d also like to congratulate the Class of 2020. The school year did not end like many of you hoped it would, but hopefully some of the items that the district is planning will make it a bit brighter.
