Award recipients for the 2018 Jones County Conservation Awards were announced during the Jones County Conservation Board meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 13.  Award recipients were:

     • Dave Eilers, of Scotch Grove, received an award for his years of support and donations towards prizes toward the Annual Central Park Kids Fishing Derby. In addition, Dave was recognized for his years of volunteer service to keep the Jones County Conservation Environmental Education program’s fishing rods and reels in good repair. Every winter, Dave has gone through and cleaned, repaired and relined 40 to 50 fishing rods and reels for the education programming.

     • Alisha Smith, Cascade High School Science Teacher, was honored for her years of integrating her classroom instruction with conservation. Alisha’s classes were able to help document and assist with research of several rare and threatened species in Jones County wildlife areas. Information collected will aid in the management of these areas and provide protection for these special species.
