Conservation seeks help for annual crane count
Jones County Conservation is asking for volunteers to step up to help with the annual Midwest Crane Count.
The mid-April event includes over 2,000 volunteers across the Midwest traveling to local wetlands and other areas popular with birds to document if they see any sandhill or whooping cranes. Seven states -- Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Minnesota -- participate.
The time to count will be between 5:30 and 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 18.
Anyone interested in participating can call Jones County Naturalist Michele Olson at (563) 487-3541.
