County FFA exhibitors excel in Iowa State Fair shows

     Brady Hayen of Monticello, Coy Petersen and Brett Schoenherr of the Midland FFA Chapter; and Sandy Hill Guernseys of Scotch Grove all had prominent entries in some of the early livestock shows at the Iowa State Fair.

     A list of Jones County results released so far follows.

 

Aug. 12

FFA Swine Show

     Brady Hayen, Reserve Champion Purebred Carcass Value Barrow, fourth place Poland China Gilt, fifth place Poland China Barrow, fifth place Crossbred Barrow, seventh place Hamp Barrow.

 

Aug. 12

FFA Poultry Show

     Midland FFA, second out of 26 chapters. Coy Petersen, Wyoming, Champion Market Duck; Reserve Champion Rose Comb, Clean-Legged Bantam. Brett Schoenherr, Champion Breeding Goose, Reserve Champion Breeding Goose, Champion Breeding Turkey, Reserve Champion Breeding Turkey.

 

Aug 12

Milking Shorthorn Dairy Cattle Show

     Sandy Hill Guernseys, Scotch Grove, first in Fall Yearling Heifer (not in milk), fourth in Winter Heifer Calf.

 

Aug. 12-13

FFA Market Swine Show

     Monticello FFA Chapter, 10th out of 122 chapters. Jessica Frasher, Anamosa, Champion Chester White, Reserve Champion Chester White.

 

Aug. 13

Guernsey Dairy Cattle Show

     Sandy Hill Guernseys, Scotch Grove, second in Junior Best Three Females, fourth in Spring Heifer Calf, fifth in Spring Heifer Calf, fifth in Fall Heifer Calf.
