County, union exchange contract proposals

The Jones County Supervisors entered into a closed session during their Jan. 7 meeting to discuss labor negotiations. 

Once the board came out of that closed session, the supervisors and P.P.M.E. Local 2003 exchanged initial contract proposals for the contract effective July 1, 2020. 

In the union’s proposal, it states that they “seek to increase the employee’s wages in each class by 4 percent per classification” beginning July 1, 2020; four percent beginning July 2, 2021; and four percent beginning July 1, 2022. Basically, the union is seeking a three-year contract. 

Under the county’s proposal, they seek a one-year contract effective July 1, 2020. However, they were willing to discuss a multi-year agreement. 

In terms of wages, the county proposed a 1 percent wage increase. 

The board and the union did enter into negotiations and reached a tentative agreement. The terms of the agreement will not be released until all union members vote on the matter.
