Court Proceedings
• Sarah Beth McMurran, of Monticello, was adjudicated to be guilty to a charge of forgery. McMurran received a five-year suspended prison sentence and was placed on two years of supervised probation and was given credit for two years of probation. McMurran was fined $1,025 plus court costs.
• John Randall Maher, of Mount Vernon, was arrested Sept. 3 on charges of driving while barred, possession of a controlled substance-third or subsequent offense and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also cited for not wearing a seatbelt.
Court documents state Randall was pulled over at 3:59 p.m. Sept. 3 on Highway E34 near Fairview Road. Maher admitted to an officer he was barred from driving and possessed syringes with methamphetamine in them, documents state. A records check showed Maher was on pretrial release for possession of a controlled substance and first-degree theft at the time of the traffic stop. Upon searching Maher’s vehicle, an officer found meth residue, a small baggie of meth and four syringes, documents state.
• Justin Adrian Christiansen, of Bettendorf, was arrested at 10:55 a.m. Sept. 7. in the 100 block of West Main Street in Wyoming on two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
Court documents state Christiansen was pulled over for an improper brake light. The deputy said he noticed the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, and Christiansen also admitted to having methamphetamine in the vehicle, documents state. A search of the truck revealed a crystal-like substance inside multiple containers and drug paraphernalia, documents state.
• Carnell Antonio Hartman, of Monticello, was arrested at 4:08 p.m. Sept. 3 at Carpenter Elementary School on a charge of interference with official acts. Documents state an officer was dispatched to the school for a complaint about a black male wearing a puffy hooded jacket and pajama pants. Upon arrival, an officer located Hartman, who identified himself as “Nelly B. Hartman Jr.” The officer questioned if this was accurate, and Hartman insisted he was telling the truth, documents state. The responding officer located a phone number for Hartman’s mother, who provided Hartman’s correct name for the officer, documents state.
• Max Gates Chase, of Washington, Utah, was arrested at 2 a.m. Sept. 6 on North Garnavillo Street in Anamosa on charges of disorderly conduct, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Charging documents state Chase was pulled over and investigated for a possible OWI. After exiting his vehicle, Chase began yelling slurs at officers and, later, at hospital staff, documents state. The officer noted in charging documents that the encounter took place in a residential area and “the volume and content of (Chase’s) words were likely to offend and disturb anyone within earshot.” A deputy located an open container of THC oil, THC edibles and mushroom edibles in the vehicle, documents state.
• Korey Adam Koppenhaver, of Anamosa, was arrested at 8:14 p.m. Sept. 6 on a charge of domestic abuse assault and obstruction of emergency communications.
Court documents state Anamosa officers responded to the 100 block of Mechanic Street after a complainant said Koppenhaver was “out of control.” Upon arrival, an officer spoke with others at the home who said the victim and Koppenhaver had a dispute over whether the window should be open or not. Koppenhaver was upset, knocked a food tray out of the victim’s hands, and grabbed the victim’s shirt before pushing him down into a chair, documents state. Koppenhaver then took another resident’s phone as she attempted to call 911, documents state.
• Monica Danielle Hunsperger, of Anamosa, was arrested at 9:49 p.m. Aug. 30 in the 1700 block of Iowa 64 on a charge of driving with a revoked or denied license.
Court documents state an Anamosa officer pulled over a vehicle with a broken left taillight. The officer noted Hunsperger continued to drive after he activated the emergency lights on his patrol vehicle. Hunsperger was identified as the driver, documents state, and admitted to not wanting to stop due to her license being invalid, documents state.
• Kohlman Leroy Klinge, of Anamosa, was arrested at 5 p.m. Sept. 2 at the intersection of Iowa 1 and U.S. 151on a charge of driving with a revoked or denied license.
Charging documents state Klinge was pulled over for illegal window tint and failure to maintain a license plate. The deputy conducting the stop noticed Klinge’s truck was fitted with an interlock device. Klinge told the officer he did not have a temporary restricted license but did have high-risk insurance, as required.
The deputy charged Klinge but did not bring Klinge into custody on his promise that he would appear.
• Nathan Andrew Lamere, of Onslow, was arrested at 1:04 p.m. Sept. 4 on County Road E29 on a charge of disorderly conduct.
Court documents state a deputy was dispatched to E29 between Onslow and Center Junction for a report of a man in the middle of the roadway. Upon arrival, the deputy found Lamere on the shoulder hitting rocks into the ditch with a board. Documents state the deputy contacted witnesses, who said Lamere had been standing in the middle of the road “with something behind his back.” Motorists were forced to swerve around Lamere, documents state. A nearby resident said he saw Lamere swing the board at cars as they drove by, documents state.
• Sara Ann Phillips, of Monticello, was arrested at 11:37 a.m. Sept. 7 on a charge of unlawful possession of a prescription drug.
Court documents state Phillips was in a vehicle that was pulled over in the 100 block of West Main Street in Monticello. On scene, law enforcement noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle, documents state. While Phillips was exiting the vehicle, she said there were two oxycodone pills in her coin purse and admitted she did not have a prescription for them, documents state.
