Court proceedings

• Jose Luis Cervantes Jr., of Des Moines, pleaded guilty to a charge of no valid driver’s license. Cervantes Jr. was fined $250 plus court costs. Cervantes was originally charged with driving while barred but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge per the plea agreement. 

• Curtis William Ackerman, of Anamosa, was arrested at 8:14 p.m. Sept. 16 on Oak Street in Anamosa on a charge of stalking. 

Court documents state the victim reported Ackerman has followed her to her place of work and events associated with her place of work despite her wishes that he stay away. Ackerman was served with a trespass notice on Sept. 2 for the victim’s place of work. He was then seen outside the victim’s home on multiple occasions, documents state. The victim said Ackerman’s repeated presence caused her to feel frightened, documents state. 

• Ryan Matthew Wageman, of Anamosa, was arrested at 8:28 p.m. Sept. 16 on a charge of fifth-degree theft. 

Court documents state a resident called to report a theft of tools from a shed on her property on Buffalo Road. The caller captured a photo of the alleged thief’s license plate, which came back to a 2000 GMC Sonoma registered to Wageman, documents state. An Anamosa police officer went to Wageman’s address and observed the vehicle in the driveway, documents state. The next day, authorities interviewed Wageman, who admitted to taking the tools --- which included a potato fork, flathead shovel, can opener and three screw drivers -- without permission, documents state. 

• Jerme Elias Knox Jr., of Atlanta, Ga., pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of a controlled substance. Knox Jr. was sentenced to two days in jail and was fined $430 plus court costs. 

• Heather Danielle Hiner, of Cedar Rapids, pleaded guilty to a charge of OWI first offense. Charges of unlawful possession of a prescription drug and possession of marijuana were dismissed as part of the plea agreement. Hiner was sentenced to two days in jail and fined $1,250 plus court costs.

• Bradley Daniel Conrad, of Monticello, was arrested at 10:41 p.m. Sept. 18 on North Main Street in Monticello on a charge of OWI second offense. 

Court documents state Conrad was driving on North Main Street on Monticello and crossed the center line, nearly hitting Monticello Officer Keanan Shannon, who was on patrol in a police vehicle, head-on. Shannon pulled Conrad over and noted Conrad showed signs of intoxication, including glossy eyes and slurred speech, documents state. Two open containers of Budweiser were found in Conrad’s vehicle, documents state, and he failed a field sobriety test.
