Monticello schools Superintendent Brian Jaeger offered his weekly COVID update on Friday, Feb. 11. Jeager shared two charts of state data from the Iowa Department of Public Health comparing the last two weeks.

“Our cases have dropped by 153 people in Jones County,” he said. “You can see the statewide numbers are continuing to drop at a rapid rate. It is great to be trending in the right direction again!”

To echo Jaeger’s statement, COVID-positive cases and cases being monitored are both down across the school district, K-12, for both students and staff.

There are currently 11 positive cases, a decrease of five cases from the previous week. Thirteen cases are being monitored, a drop of 13 from last week. These are cases for people who are in quarantine, waiting for COVID test results, or those who are out with COVID-like symptoms.

The IDPH reported a seven-day positivity rate of 12 percent currently for Jones County. That is down 11 percent from last week. There are 57 positive COVID cases in the county, which is down dramatically by 77 cases from last week.
