Cratsenberg named Starlighters award recipient

Jan Cratsenberg

Starlighters II Community Theatre announced that the recipient of the 2019 Furino Award was Jan Cratsenberg.

Audrey Savage, president of the Starlighters’ board, announced the award at the Old Timers’ Potluck. The award has been given by the board since 2014 in “recognition of outstanding service to Starlighters and the promotion of the arts.” It was established both to recognize service and to encourage volunteerism at the theatre.

The 2014 recipient was Bob Furino, one of the co-founders of Starlighetrs II, and a tireless volunteer. Since that time, Charlotte Scheckel, Steve Nassif, and Jim Lauzon, have all been recipients of the award. Each recipient has his/her name engraved on a brass plate placed on a larger plaque. The plaque hangs in the Starlighters II Theatre lobby near the entrance.

Cratsenberg joined Starlighters II in 1979 after appearing in “The Crucible.” Since that time, she has served on several committees and the board of directors. She has appeared in acting roles only seven times, preferring behind-the-scenes roles such as helping with props, costumes, and painting sets. She has directed or been assistant director for 19 shows. Her 20th show, “Arsenic and Old Lace,” will be performed the first two weekends in December 2020. Currently, Cratsenberg and Furino are acting as director mentors and have taught both acting and directing classes.

Starlighters is an all-volunteer organization and can always use more people to give time and support, both on stage and behind the scenes. Contact Volunteer Coordinator Aimee Jones at marketing@starlighters. org to let Starlighters II know you are interested.
