Cubs fall to Dyersville

     Monticello and Dyersville were playing a close game in Eastern Iowa Hawkeye League action June 4 at Dailey Field in Monticello.

     Through four innings, Dyersville led just 1-0. But the Whitehawks scored nine runs over the next three innings, breaking the game open and going on to win 10-1 June 4.

     Monticello (0-2 league, 0-3 overall) was held to just four hits in the game. Jacob Thompson had half of those, going 2-for-3. Lucas Stutt had an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Cubs’ only run.

     “We are about two weeks behind the rest of the league due to rainouts, and it showed at the plate,” Cubs player-manager Garett Hanken said. “Hitting well requires repetition and consistency.”

     Tyler Felton was the starting pitcher, working 4 2/3 innings and taking the loss. Parker Kray and Matt Holmes also saw mound duty for the Cubs.

     “Tyler kept us in it, but we couldn’t string anything together,” Hanken said.

     The Cubs had three road dates scheduled this week, starting with a game at Farley June 6. They will play Zwingle in the first round of the Farley tournament June 9 at 6:45 p.m., and will play at Cascade June 11 at 1 p.m.
