Davis wrestles at State for Wildcats

Brady Davis represented the Maquoketa Valley Wildcats in the State Class 1A Wrestling Tournament Feb. 17 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
Davis went 0-2 in the tournament. He was pinned by Jonah Clark of WACO in 3:18, and then was pinned by Tony Greve of South Winneshiek in 1:58. Davis finished with a record of 36-7.
Girls basketball
Maquoketa Valley gave sixth-ranked North Linn all it could handle in the first half of a regional quarterfinal game Feb. 15 at Troy Mills.
North Linn took just a 13-10 lead into halftime, but then outscored the Wildcats 38-26 in the second half on the way to a 59-40 win over MV.
The Wildcats had a pair of double-digit scorers. Freshman Bianka Ronnebaum had 12 points, and sophomore Haley Ronnebaum had 11 points. Kylie Chesnut contributed seven points and eight rebounds. Kennedy Rausch had five points, Erin Knipper had three, and Carissa Sabers had two. Sabers also had seven rebounds.
Maquoketa Valley finished the season 13-10, including a 7-7 record in the Tri-Rivers Conference.
Boys basketball
Maquoketa Valley ended its boys basketball season with a win and then a loss in Class 1A district play.
The Wildcats opened the postseason with a 64-35 district first round triumph over AGWSR Feb. 14 in Troy Mills. Avery Holtz led the way with 20 points and five assists. Lucas Orcutt had 12 points and five rebounds. Lance McShane scored 11 points. Kody Hoeger had 10 points and seven rebounds. Toby Grimm had four assists.
Then, North Linn outscored Maquoketa Valley in each of the four quarters to pull away to a 48-25 boys basketball victory in a Class 1A district quarterfinal game Feb. 17 in Troy Mills. Holtz scored eight opints and grabbed three rebounds. Orcutt had four rebounds. Grimm made two assists. Hoeger had two blocks.
The loss ended the season for the Wildcats who finished 9-14, including 5-9 in the Tri-Rivers Conference.
