Does the Iowa Legislature want public education to fail?

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor,

What company would publicly put out a false narrative claiming they have a faulty product, that their workers have a sinister agenda, and, instead of motivating their customers to buy from them, encourage them to shop elsewhere? To top it off, they would provide them with a voucher to do it! That company wouldn’t be in business very long, would it?

Unfortunately, those are exactly the comments and actions from several Iowa politicians regarding our public education system. Shouldn’t they tirelessly work to improve their product, public education? Shouldn’t they trumpet the many extraordinary stories of their teachers, workers, and school staff? And, rather than monetarily enticing children to go to a private school, shouldn’t they use those funds to make enhancements to public education so parents wouldn’t want their kids to go anywhere other than an exceptional neighborhood school? It’s almost as if they are working to see their company, the public school system, fail.
