Dolores “Dode” Merfeld Oct. 3, 1929 – Jan. 17, 2019

      Dolores “Dode” Merfeld, 89, of Cascade, Iowa, passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019 at 4:25 a.m., at Monticello Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Monticello, Iowa.

      Friends and relatives of Dode called from 2 to 7 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade where a wake service was held at 2 p.m. Services for Dode were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 21, 2019 at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Cascade with Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating.  Burial was held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade.

      Dode was born Oct. 3, 1929 in Cascade, Iowa, daughter of Louie and Anne (Koppes) Leesekamp.  She graduated from St. Martin’s High School in Cascade.  On June 30, 1953, she was united in marriage to Joseph Merfeld at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Cascade.  She worked as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade for many years.  Dode enjoyed doing all things crafting especially crocheting and embroidering. She was a member of St. Mathias Parish.

      She is survived by her husband, Joseph Merfeld of Cascade; one daughter, Lisa Manternach of Cascade; three sons, Mark (Deb) Merfeld of Monticello; Tim (Kim) Merfeld and Todd (Dana) Merfeld both of Cascade; 14 grandchildren, Tanya Deutmeyer, Brooke Kite, Paula Moats, Jake Manternach, Brandi Keenlance, Melissa Hanewicz, Tony Merfeld, Kiel Merfeld, Mackenzie Cooper, Jamie Cooper, Allyson Merfeld, Isaac Merfeld, Natalie Merfeld and Eli Merfeld; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty McMahon of Waterloo; brothers and sisters-in-law, Louis (Gladys) Merfeld of Dubuque, Allen (Beverly) Merfeld of Rockford, Ill., Gerri Merfeld of Benton Harbor, Mich., Cheryl Merfeld of Garden Prairie, Ill., Rose Marie Oswald of Monticello, Annabelle Gudenkauf of Manchester and Theresa Drew of Cascade.

      She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Jeffery Merfeld in 1965; one daughter, Pamela Merfeld in 2003; one sister, Irene (Melvin) Peiffer; one great-grandson, Matthew Keenlance; sisters-in-law, Mary (Lawrence) Ahlers, Peggy Merfeld and Judy Merfeld; brothers-in-law, Bob McMahon, Francis Merfeld, Robert Merfeld, Carl Merfeld, Earl Oswald, Gerald Gudenkauf and Ralph Drew.
