Donald Cox Dec. 2, 1940-Jan. 20, 2017

     Donald Cox, 76, of Mt. Vernon, formerly of Marion and Monticello, passed away on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center. Celebration of life services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2017 at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, with Reverend Emory Gillespie presiding. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017 at Brosh Chapel. A private family inurnment will be at a later date.

     Donald was born Dec. 2, 1940 in Monticello, the son of Herbert and Mildred (Hyde) Cox. He graduated from Wyoming High School, class of 1958. Don was united in marriage to Jane Ann Holmes on July 22, 1960 in Olin. He grew up working with his father at Wyoming Implement. He owned and operated it for several years. He continued working in agricultural sales with Oliver/White Farm, J.I. Case Equipment and A.O. Smith Harvestore. He most recently worked in construction equipment sales with Star Equipment and retired from James W. Bell. Don enjoyed traveling, snowmobiling, camping, boating, crappie fishing with his grandchildren and most of all spending time with his family. He was his grandchildren’s number one fan.

     Don is survived by his wife, Jane; two children, Christine (Terry) Brosh of Cape Coral, Fla., and Dan (Teresa) Cox of Mt. Vernon; three grandchildren, Megan (Ben) Klaus, Ryan Cox and Bryce Cox; one great-grandson, Leroy Klaus and one on the way; his siblings, Richard (Norma) Cox of Charles City, David (Donna) Cox of Northfield, Ill., Dean (Karen) Cox of Monticello, Robert Cox of Marshalltown and Joan (Chuck) Grabner of Urbandale; a brother-in-law, Jerry (Diane) Holmes of Paris, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Mary Andrews of Birmingham, Ala., and Martha Berner of Mt. Vernon; as well as many special nieces and nephews.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law John and Freda Holmes, two brothers-in-law Ronald Andrews and Donald Berner, his niece Cathy Jo Bohlken and his nephew Timothy Cox.
