The Jones County Volunteer Center is partnering with Jones County Veteran Affairs in an effort to put together hygiene supply kits and distribute them throughout Jones County at various food pantry sites. The project is titled “9/11 Patriot Day Hygiene Kit Project.”

“Many times people who go in asking for food donations are also asking for hygiene supplies and those items are not typically as well stocked,” explained Amy Keltner, director of the Volunteer Center.

Both agencies are looking to collect such items as:

     • Deodorant

     • Shampoo/conditioner

     • Shaving cream and razors

     • Feminine products

     • Mouth care products

     • Monetary donations

On average, a full hygiene kit will cost around $17 to make. If anyone wishes to sponsor a kit, the business or organization name will be advertised on a label on the kit itself.

Kits will be delivered to local food pantries, depending on how many kits can be put together. The hygiene kits will be made available by request of clients for anyone, veteran or not.

Item donations or money can be dropped off at the Volunteer Center (105 Broadway Place Suite 1, Anamosa) or at Veteran Affairs (105 Broadway Place Suite 13, Anamosa). Arrangements can also be made to pick up donations in other locations.
