Dori was born Jan. 2, 1927, at John McDonald Hospital in Monticello, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest and Laura Jane (Chapman) Emmert. She attended schools in rural Jones County and began high school at Anamosa and graduated from Olin High School in 1944. She married Art Husmann of Scotch Grove on May 1, 1945, where they farmed. She was employed by Collins Radio in Anamosa for a few years. Later she operated a catering business, Husmann's Foods. She still made her famous turkey and dressings for the graduation of a grandchild in her late 80s. She was an avid gardener, liked both crossword and jigsaw puzzles and her friends of the Oak Drive Club. She and Art enjoyed dancing, playing cards, mushroom hunting and time spent in the woods at the farm. Christmases at the farm were special. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she made many noodles, tied lots of quilts and headed the funeral luncheon group for many years. Mostly she enjoyed being a mother and grandmother caring for and encouraging her children - Jill (Tom) Brokaw of Monticello; Jay (deceased) (Joan) Husmann of Anamosa; Jerry (Diane) Husmann of Edgewater, Florida; and Jim (Ann) Husmann of Cedar Falls, who feel blessed to have had her for their mother. She is survived by three children; 12 grandchildren - Jennifer Payne, Tom Brokaw III, Kerri Hall, Elizabeth Schulte, Stacy Brokaw, DeEtta Richardson, Jeff Husmann, Erin Husmann, Brian Husmann, Raymond Husmann, Annika Hauan, and Mitchell Husmann as well as many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Margy (Kenny) Taylor, a sister-in-law Pat Emmert, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Art in 2002, one son, six brothers and sisters, and her parents.
Her family is saddened by her passing, but also thankful for her long, loving and fruitful life. They have appreciated the staff at both Pennington and the nursing home along with the compassionate staff of Above and Beyond Hospice Care. Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran church or the Food Pantry.
