On May 23, Caleb Daniel Dowell was sentenced on three different counts related to a brutal assault on a Monticello Police Officer. He was sentenced to an indeterminate term not to exceed five years in prison for the Class D felony of willful injury resulting in bodily injury. He was sentenced to an indeterminate term not to exceed two years in prison for the aggravated misdemeanor of assault on a peace office, and he was sentenced to 365 days on the third count of trespassing.

The three sentences will be run consecutive to one another, and Dowell will remain in custody until transferred to the Department of Corrections.

These cases were investigated by the Monticello Police Department, and all relate to an incident that occurred on Feb. 20, 2023, when Dowell assaulted an on-duty uniformed Monticello Officer.
