DRA announces area grant awards

     The Dubuque Racing Association (DRA), d.b.a. Q Casino, announced grant awards totaling $1,359,769.65 to 151 area charitable organizations.

     The grants awarded range from $1,197 to $25,000. The average grant award was $7,768.51 with 53 organizations receiving full funding for their projects. Twenty-nine schools or school districts received $355,593, or 26 percent, of the grant money. Over 61 percent of the funds supported organizations within the City of Dubuque, and 79 percent of the funds supported organizations within Dubuque County.

     The DRA distributes funds from its operations annually. The annual disbursement resulted in the State of Iowa receiving $10,221,194, the City of Dubuque receiving $7,164,956, and Dubuque County receiving $240,711. During the 2016 fiscal year the DRA also paid $14,533.695 in payroll and benefits to nearly 315 employees.

     • Monticello High School, Think It Over, $4,172.10

     • Monticello Middle School, Cook’n at the Middle School, $2,500

     • Scared Heart School, 1 to 1 Education, $5,000

     • Shannon Elementary School, Second Step, $1,756
