Midland junior Emma Dusanek competed at the prestigious Drake Relays, running in the 100-meter dash on Friday morning, April 27 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

Dusanek finished 30th in the event with 13.57 at Drake, where she competed against runners from all four classes.

“Emma didn’t run as fast as she would have liked, but I feel this was a huge accomplishment and experience for Emma, and will only strengthen her season,” Midland coach Ryan Luensman said.

Meanwhile, the Eagles competed in three other meets last week, starting with the Northeast Rebel Relays April 23. Midland placed eighth in the meet, with 48.5 points. The Eagles were also eighth in the Anamosa Co-ed meet April 24, with 37 points; and finished 11th in the Cascade Co-ed meet April 27.

Dusanek won the 100, and placed in the 200 and 400, at Anamosa.

“I’m excited to see Emma run so consistent and be able to handle a heavy workload of meets,” Luensman said. “Our 4x800 team (Delanie Uppena, Kayla Folkers, Ella Rupp, Carly Webb) is chopping its times down each and every week.

“Ella Rupp and Ari Hacke continued to gain valuable experience and strengthen many of our relays. Drew Jensen had a very solid week as well, placing in many events and winning the 400 at Cascade.

“Sara Flores has established herself as our number one thrower and is collecting team points. And our sprint medley team of Liz Block, Ari Hacke, Drew Jensen and Emma Dusanek took first at Northeast and third at Cascade.”
