The members of DuTrac Community Credit Union donated $500 to the Monticello Public Library.

“We are very grateful for this donation,” said Michelle Turnis, director of the Monticello Public Library. “This money will be used for our new program ‘1,000 Books Before Kindergarten.’”

“1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” is a national program created to encourage parents to read one book per night to their child beginning at age 3. When a child reaches a certain number of books read, they will receive a prize. For example, when a child reaches their 500th book, they will receive a new book from the library.

“Education is at the center of DuTrac’s core values and we are happy to support the ‘1,000 Books Before Kindergarten’ initiative that promotes early literacy in our children,” said Andy Hawkinson, president and CEO of DuTrac.
