Girls basketball

Midland played a pair of Tri-Rivers Conference opponents last week, and came up short in both games.

The Eagles (0-3) played host to Alburnett Nov. 29, and lost by a score of 38-32.

“We battled hard all game and took a step forward overall, but have many areas to improve on,” Midland coach Jason Soper said. “I thought defensively, all game, we played well enough to win. Too many turnovers and poor shooting percentage led to our demise.”

Midland shot 12-for-58 from the field (20.7 percent). Emmaleigh Soper led the Eagles in scoring with eight points. Anna Bartels had seven points and eight rebounds. A.J. Soper had seven rebounds.

The Eagles then played host to Calamus-Wheatland Dec. 2, and lost 47-36, as the Warriors ended the game on a 16-2 run. Bartels had nine points, A.J. Soper added eight, Gracie Franzen had six and Jayde Martin scored five. Amaya Terrell and Franzen had five rebounds apiece.

“If we had cleaned up turnovers and shot the ball better, I know the outcome would have been a positive  one,” coach Soper said.
