Eagles bow out of postseason play

Midland wraps up 2026 season

   After dropping a 43-39 decision to Calamus-Wheatland in the regular season finale, the Midland girls basketball team faced off against the Warriors six days later, this time in Class 1A Region 6 action.

   Back inside Calamus-Wheatland High School in Wheatland on Feb. 12, the Warriors (10-13) topped the Eagles (6-16), 41-31, behind big nights from senior duo Katie Hein and Haley Green.

   “Super proud of our team and particularly our senior class,” Midland coach Jason Soper said. “There was lots of emotions in the locker room, and I was extremely honored to get to walk alongside each of these girls throughout their basketball careers.”

   The Eagles say goodbye to four seniors: Hayven Herman, McKenna Doll, Gabbie Franzen and AJ Soper.

   The Eagles trailed Cal-Wheat, 8-4, after the first quarter. Calamus-Wheatland extended their lead and took a 20-12 lead into halftime.

   Midland outscored the Warriors, 9-8, in the third quarter and cut the deficit to seven, 28-21. The teams traded scores in the fourth frame, but the Eagles couldn’t come any closer than seven points.

   Stats for the Eagles’ regional loss to Calamus-Wheatland include: points - McKenna Doll 12, Dakota Nicely 5, Hayven Herman 4, Gabbie Franzen 4, AJ Soper 3, Haidinlyn Soper 3; rebounds – Doll 15, AJ Soper 16, Nicely 6, Franzen 5, Herman 3, H. Soper 2; assists – Franzen 1, AJ Soper 1, H. Soper 1; steals – AJ Soper 3, Franzen 1, Nicely 1; blocks – AJ Soper 2.
