Boys track

For the Midland boys track team, it was a big triumph just to be able to attend a meet.

“Our boys were eager to compete,” Midland coach Eric Smith said. “They have been preparing since Feb. 12, two days shy of two months.”

Midland attended the Saber Relays at DeWitt Central April 10. Junior Luke Lasack won the shot put with a throw of 48-foot-2, and was third in the discus at 124-6.5. Brett Schoenherr set a personal record in the shot put, and Smith praised the performances of Hunter Rushford, Ethan Milder, Connor Martin and Kole Michaud.

The Eagles were back in action two days later, at the Monticello Relays. Hunter Shoaff set a PR in the shot put, giving the Eagles three throwers who have surpassed the 38-foot mark this season.

“Assistant coach Jacob Heinsius has done a great job this season preparing these young men to compete at the highest level,” Smith said.

Ryan Wariner dropped his 3,200 time by 28 seconds from Tuesday to Thursday, the coach said.

The Midland girls placed third with a 307. Anamosa was the team winner with 200, Ed-Co had 220, and North Linn had an incomplete team. Kara Hunt of Anamosa shot 46 to be meet medalist.
