Eagles fall in playoffs after furious comeback

   In the first round of Class 1A Substate 4 and District 8 action, the Midland boys basketball team fell to Prince of Peace, 61-50, to wrap up the season.

   The Eagles built an 11-8 lead after the first quarter, and after a 15-15 tie in the second quarter, led 26-23 at halftime.

   Midland outscored the Irish, 12-11, in the third frame to lead 38-34 after three quarters before big fourth quarter for Prince of Peace turned the tide.

   The Irish put up 27 points in the fourth to jump out to the lead and pick up the district win.

   Stats for the Eagles’ loss to the Irish include: points – Xander Eldred 16, Carter Otte 13, Gage Gile 11, Avery Kennicker 3, Lane Thomsen 3, Tyler Gaunt 2, Cole Snyder 2; rebounds – Gile 5, Grady Sauer 5, Cole Snyder 4, Thomsen 3, Eldred 2, Gaunt 2, Otte 2, Kennicker 1; assists – Eldred 7, Otte 2, Gile 1, Sauer 1; steals – Eldred 5, Otte 3, Gaunt 1, Kennicker 1, Thomsen 1; blocks – Snyder 1.
