Eagles host meet, race at Fillmore

MIDLAND RECAP

Cross Country

   Midland hosted its annual invitational meet Sept. 12 at Little Bear Country Club in Wyoming.

   The Eagles sent three boys’ runners out in the meet. Milo Smith led the team with a 12th place finish in 23:16. Jayson Ruley finished 11th in 23:53. Jay Bentley was 34th in 29:03.

   “I thought that our runners ran a competitive race with the others,” Midland coach Jon Eganhouse said.

   Midland then ran in the Cascade Invitational Sept. 15 at Fillmore Fairways. Smith finished in 22:10, Ruley was clocked in 22:40, and Bentley had a time of 27:48.

   “We are competitive in the first two miles, and then there is a drop,” Eganhouse said. “This next week we will be looking at working more at those longer distances physically and mentally.”

 

Football

   Central City built a 38-8 lead through three quarters, and went on to defeat the Midland Eagles 44-20 in an Eight-player, District 5 football game Sept. 16 in Wyoming.

   The loss, coming on Midland’s homecoming, dropped the Eagles to 1-2 in district play, 2-2 overall.

   For Midland, Caden Ballou completed 13 of 24 passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns. Ballou also rushed 24 times for 120 yards and one score Zain Sauer and Seth Bixler each had a touchdown catch.

   Defensively, Sauer had an interception, and Bixler recovered a Central City fumble. Ballou had 6.5 tackles, including a sack. Shayden Hansen had six tackles.

 

Volleyball

   Midland (1-14) played host to Clinton Prince of Peace Sept. 15, and lost by scores of 9-25, 23-25, 18-25.

   The Eagles then competed in the Lisbon Invitational Sept. 17, and lost four matches. Midland fell to Wapsie Valley 8-21, 3-21; to West Burlington 9-21, 8-21; to Mediapolis 4-21, 8-21; and to Iowa Valley 19-25, 22-25.

   Statistics from these matches were not available at press time.
