Eagles ousted by Central Elkader

     Midland saw its boys basketball season come to an end in a heartbreaking Class 1A, District 6 first round game Feb. 11 in Wyoming.

     Central of Elkader scored on a layup with two seconds left in overtime to eke out a 51-50 victory in the Feb. 11 game.

     The game was close throughout, with the teams playing to a 31-31 tie by halftime, and Central Elkader leading 41-40 after three quarters. Midland had chances to win the game at the end of regulation time, and took the lead in overtime before the Warriors scored the winning basket.

     For the Eagles, Britan Martens scored 15 points. Hunter Brown had eight points, Carsen Rupp and Ethan Kaftan had seven points apiece, Wilson Buckwalter had six, and Iziek Soper had five. Soper had eight rebounds, while four Eagles had five rebounds apiece: Peyton Rupp, Buckwalter, Brown and Martens. Carsen Rupp had five assists and five steals; Buckwalter made four assists. Kaftan had two blocks.

     Earlier, the Eagles closed out their regular season with a 55-38 loss at Lisbon Feb. 9. Carsen Rupp led Midland in scoring with 11 points, and Buckwalter had seven. Brown had six points and seven rebounds, while Martens had six points and five steals.

     Midland finished the season with a record of 4-16, including 2-9 in the Tri-Rivers Conference.
