Eagles split Tri-Rivers games

Girls’ basketball

     Midland split a pair of Tri-Rivers Conference girls’ basketball games in last week’s action.

     The Eagles (2-1, 2-1) started the week with a 41-27 win over Edgewood-Colesburg Nov. 27 in Wyoming.

     Drew Jensen scored 13 points and Morgan Soper added 12 to pace Midland. Jensen also had eight steals, seven rebounds and three assists. Delanie Uppena grabbed 16 rebounds, including five on the offensive boards, and blocked four shots. Ella Rupp came off the bench to score six points, grab eight rebounds and make five steals. Arianna Hacke had seven rebounds, Allison Paulsen had six, and Mikayla Dosland had five. Soper had three steals.

     Midland then traveled to Winthrop to face East Buchanan, and lost 63-42. The Eagles trailed by just six at halftime, but were outscored 33-18 in the final two quarters.

     Dosland led the team in scoring with 12 points, and Jensen had 11 points, six rebounds and four steals. Uppena was the leading rebounder on the team with 13, and Rupp had nine rebounds, three assists and two steals.

    

Wrestling

     Midland opened its wrestling season with a pair of events in a three-day period, starting with a quadrangular meet Nov. 29 at Don Bosco of Gilbertville.

     The Eagles lost three duals that evening, by scores of 70-9 to Don Bosco, 42-36 to Jesup, and 48-18 to Wapsie Valley. Damon Huston at 106 pounds and Brett Schoenherr at 220 both went 3-0. Huston won by pin, decision and forfeit; and Schoenherr had a pin and two forfeit wins. Carson Hunter (145) won one match by pin.

     On Dec. 1, the Eagles competed in the Tipton Invitational, and finished sixth out of nine teams with 118 points.

     Midland had three champions: Huston at 113 pounds, Griffin Gravel at 126, and Schoenherr at 220.

     Finishing second was Hunter at 145. Cayden Miller placed fourth at 138 pounds.
