Edinburgh Folk Fest has fun for the whole family

     The Edinburgh Folk Festival is celebrating local German heritage this year.

     The annual event will take place Sunday, Aug. 26, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $4 for a commemorative button. Children 12 and under are free.

     There are many activities taking place throughout the day, something for everyone:

     • 11 a.m. – A church service led by Pastor Frank Shepherd

     • 11:50 a.m. – Flag raising ceremony and singing of the National Anthem

     • Noon until closing – Lunch stand, featuring sandwiches, pie and ice cream

     • Noon – German music by Karen Bartachek

     • 1 p.m. – German entertainment/speaker

     • 2 p.m. – Spelling bee and games

     • 2:45 p.m. – Drawing for prizes (must be present to win)

     • 3 p.m. – Oats threshing

     The activities and demonstrations throughout the afternoon will include:

     • Earth oven bread baking

     • Open fire cooking

     • Blacksmith demonstration

     • Rope making

     There will also be a display of classic cars and antique farm equipment. Everyone is welcome to bring their vehicle/equipment for show.

     • Tickets to Family Museum in Bettendorf

     Edinburgh Historical Village is located 3 miles east of Amber at 13838 Edinburgh Rd. in Scotch Grove.

     The Folk Festival is hosted by the Jones County Historical Society.
