Eighth-grade Panthers play four opponents

VOLLEYBALL

     Matches against four opponents served up the start of the season for the Monticello eighth-grade volleyball team.

     The Panthers opened the season Sept. 2 at home against Bellevue. The A team lost 17-21, 16-21. Naryah Trenkamp served 10-for-10 with four aces, and had one kill. Macy Dusanek served 6-for-7 and had five digs.

     The B team split four sets, 15-6, 7-15, 7-15, 15-12. Anna Grant served 8-for-8 with two aces, while Claire McElmeel was 7-for-7 with two aces.

     On Sept. 9, the team played at Anamosa. The A team won 21-19, 22-20. Ava Zimmerman served 5-for-6 with two aces and four kills. Hannah Butterworth was 5-for-6 with two aces and one block.

     The B team swept the Blue Raiders 15-13, 15-12, 15-10. Cambryn Lee served 5-for-7 with five ace. Haleigh Folkers was 10-for-10 with fou aces. Neveah Norton served 6-for-6 with four aces. Kiara Mysak was 5-for-5 with three aces and a kill. Sam Ruchti had two kills.

     Monticello played host to Cascade Sept. 14. The A team won 21-9, 21-17. Kennedy Hermsen served 7-for-8 with three aces and two kills. Paige Rickels served 9-for-11 with three aces and seven assists.

     In the B match, the Panthers lost three of four, 10-15, 9-15, 11-15, 15-13. Koye Jaeger had two kills and three digs. Stella Flynn served 2-for-3 with an ace.

     At Wilton Sept. 16, Monticello lost the A match 21-19, 22-24, 8-15. Andrea Giegerich served 11-for-12 with three aces and nine digs. Rickels was 10-for-11 and had five assists and two kills. Trenkamp was 7-for-8 with four digs, four kills and an ace. Hermsen served 7-for-7 with two aces, five assists and three kills. Butterworth went 7-for-7 with three kills and three digs.

     The Panthers lost the B match 5-15, 6-15. Samara Olivarez served 2-for-4 with an ace. Chyna Davis had two kills.
