Eighth-graders battle four foes

Eighth-grade team

     Four opponents faced the Monticello High School eighth-grade boys basketball team in recent action.

     On Feb. 16, the Panthers played an A game only at Bellevue, and won 47-19 as Lucas Foust scored 21 points. Carson Lambert added 17, Jack Lambert had four, Brennan Bohlken had three, and Gatlin Wright scored two.

     Monticello then played at Cascade Feb. 18, and lost two games. The A team fell 41-37 despite 19 points from Carson Lambert. Jack Lambert had eight points, Wright had six and Foust had four.

     In the B game, Cascade won 19-7. Scoring for Monticello were Bohlken with three, Dalton Holub and Urijah Etzel with two apiece.

     The Panthers traveled to Maquoketa Feb. 22, and split two games. The A team won 50-47, as three players scored in double figures: Carson Lambert with 16, Foust with 14 and Jack Lambert with 13. Reed Brunscheen added five points, and Wright had two.

     Monticello lost the B game 22-17. Kaleb Horstman and Bohlken had six points apiece, Holub scored three and Lincoln Verhagen added two.

     Next, the Panthers played at North Cedar Feb. 23 in an A game only, and won 49-18 behind 21 points from Foust. Carson Lambert chipped in with 10 points, Bohlken had seven, Etzel scored five and Holub had two.

 

Seventh-grade team

     The Monticello seventh-grade boys basketball team took on four opponents over the past couple of weeks.

     The action started with two games at Bellevue Feb. 16, with Monticello going 1-1. The A team won 41-39. Brady Gogel scored 18 points, Lincoln Schneiter had 14, Wyatt O’Reilly had six, and Kyle Arduser had three.

     Monticello lost the B game 12-2. Grant Thomas had two points for the Panthers.

     At Cascade Feb. 18, the Panthers lost twice. The A team fell 50-46 despite having three players score in double figures: Gogel with 19, Alex Jamison with 11 and O’Reilly with 11. Schneiter added five.

     Cascade won the B game 21-2. Dominic Culpepper scored Monticello’s points.

     On Feb. 22, Monticello played host to Maquoketa, and won twice. Gogel totaled 34 points as the A team won 45-36. O’Reilly scored six, Jamison had three and Lane Weber had two.

     In the B game, Monticello edged Maquoketa 18-15. Grant Gassman scored eight points, Culpepper added five, Tate Long and Arduser had two apiece, and Thomas scored one.

     At North Cedar Feb. 23, the Panthers picked up two more wins. The A team won 54-36, led by Gogel with 21 points, Jamison with 16 and Schneiter with nine. Arduser had six points, and Talan Long scored two.

     The Panthers prevailed in the B game, 12-6. Weber had four points, while Ben Welter, Aiden Bieber, Thomas and Culpepper scored two each.
