Eighth-graders split with Bellevue

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Monticello’s eighth-grade girls basketball team had one date on the schedule last week, traveling to Bellevue to play two games.

The A team scored a 30-14 victory. Gabbi Guilford led the way with 10 points, Karli Recker scored eight, Beka Prull and DeLainy Fellinger had five apiece, and Tori McDonald scored two.

“I give the girls all the credit, as this was their seventh game in eight days counting tournament play, and all the games have been on the road,” Monticello coach Bret McDonald said. “Our defense has been what has carried us.”

Monticello lost the B game 24-8, Megan Mahoney led the Panthers with four points, while Kacie Rickels and Caroline Olson had two apiece.

“The girls are playing hard, just not getting the shots to fall,” McDonald said.
