Eighth-graders top three foes

BOYS BASKETBALL

     Three opponents occupied the Monticello eighth-grade boys basketball team in recent action.

     The Panthers played at Cascade Jan. 27, and the A team won 59-29, as Preston Ries scored 32 points. Peyton Schilling and Cael Sampson had eight points apiece, Carson Cox added four, Easton Prull had three, Cole Welter and Jonah Luensman scored two apiece.

     In the B game, Monticello won 8-5. Peyton Speltz had four points; Zach Yates and Keaton Hermsen had two each.

     Monticello also swept two games at home against Bellevue Feb. 3. The A team won 53-23, with Ries collecting 23 points. Also scoring were Schilling with nine, Cox with five, Connor Jordan and Welter with four apiece, Prull and Luensman with three each, and Sampson with two.

     The Panthers won the B game 17-5. Deivid Lopez led the way with five points, Hermsen and Yates scored four apiece, Sawyer Brokaw and Speltz had two each.

     On Feb. 6 at Anamosa, Monticello played an A game only and won 56-16. Four Panthers scored in double figures: Ries with 14, Prull, Schilling and Cox with 10 apiece. Welter added five points, Luensman had four and Jordan scored three.
