Every Child Reads donates books for ‘Read Across America’

     Across the nation, more than 45 million readers, both young and old, are gearing up for the nation’s largest reading celebration – the National Education Association’s (NEA) Read Across America Day. Please join Every Child Reads, the Grade Level Reading Initiative of the Jones County Community Foundation (JCCF), in recognizing this important celebration.

     Here in Jones County, parents, teachers, education support professionals, students, and elected officials are doing their part to deliver the very important reading message: “Kids who read, and who are read to, do better in school and help build great communities.”

     Every Child Reads Jones County is asking everyone to participate in this worthwhile cause. Whether it is donating books to the local library or encouraging your own children or grandchildren to pick up a book and read, everyone can do something.

     Every Child Reads is getting into the reading excitement, too. They are partnering with school districts and parochial schools in Jones County to provide books to students. Books will be used and distributed as each school determines.

     Since its inception, the Read Across America program, designed to get kids excited about reading, has acted as a vehicle to talk about a serious issue in a fun way: children’s literacy. Read Across America reminds parents of the crucial role they play in their children’s education. Taking time to read with a child is one of the most important lessons that parents can share with their children.

     Join in on the fun because you’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read with a child!
