Everyone has something to vote for Nov. 4

Poll workers key to making sure elections run smoothly

The Nov.4, 2025, city and school election is now less than a week away. Every voter in the county has races to vote for.

Those who reside within city limits will have city races and school board races on their ballots. If you live in an unincorporated town or rural area, you will have school races to vote on. While presidential and gubernatorial elections get more publicity than local elections, all are equally important. Voting in a local election gives you a direct link to those who are leading the community in which you live your everyday life.

Polling locations are the same as they

were for the presidential election last November. If you are unsure of your polling place, the Secretary of State’s website has a find your polling place feature. You can also call the Jones County Auditor’s Office to ask about your polling location. Polling locations are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day.

In-person absentee voting is currently

taking place at the courthouse. We are open for voting Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This is a good option if you want to vote but have other obligations on election day. There is no voting at the courthouse on election day.

Election results will be posted on the

Jones County Iowa Elections website as they come in after polls close. Look for the red banner at the top of the main website page, www.jonescounty

iowaelections.gov.

Please remember that it does take time for the results to get transmitted to the auditor’s office. It could be at least 9 p.m. before results start getting posted.

There are many moving parts leading

up to an election. The auditor’s office staff spends countless hours preparing for the election, but we know that we cannot do it all ourselves. We could not have a successful election in Jones County without the loyal poll workers, who year after year spend 15 hours at the polls on election day setting up, greeting voters and tearing down at the end of the night. I am truly grateful for the poll workers in Jones County and the awesome job they do training for the election and serving on election day.

In closing, I encourage all voters to

plan ahead. If you have any questions about voting early or on election day, please don’t hesitate to call the office at 319-462-2282.
