The Monticello Express and Shoppers’ Guide welcomes Faith (Britt) Walker as a new graphic designer. Walker started working at the Express on July 14.

“The Express is close to home,” Walker said of wanting a job closer to Monticello where she and her family live.

Prior to working at the Express, Walker spent five years with Kendall Hunt Publishing in Dubuque designing textbook covers.

“I am excited to reconnect with my hometown community,” she said, “take on new design challenges, and eliminate my long morning commute.”

Growing up in the Monticello community, Walker attended Sacred Heart Catholic School, where she said she received a “strong educational foundation.” She was valedictorian of her 2011 class at Monticello High School.

In 2015, Walker graduated from Clarke University in Dubuque with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design and a minor in writing.

Also in 2015, Walker and her husband, Tim, purchased an acreage a couple miles away from her parents’ farm west of Monticello. In February of this year, they welcomed their daughter, Morgan Nicole.

“I am thankful to work close to home so I spend more time with her every day,” expressed Walker.

With her educational and professional background, Walker said creative problem solving is her expertise, something she brings to her new role with the Express.

“I enjoy a challenge and respond well to constructive criticism,” she said.

She has knowledge of the Adobe Creative Cloud software programs, which allow her to “efficiently create high-quality designs for clients.

“I also pride myself on my positive attitude and strong work ethic,” added Walker.

She’s optimistic about learning new things working at the Monticello Express.

“After designing solely book covers for so many years, I can’t wait to take on a variety of different projects every day as well as learn about the printing process. I’m especially eager to express my creativity on invitations and signage.”

Outside of the work environment, Walker enjoys swimming, biking, gardening, hunting for morel mushrooms, traveling, and attending rock concerts and county fairs.

“Thank you to everyone at the Express for giving me such a warm welcome and making me feel like part of the team from day one!” she said.
