Fence at Bowens Prairie poses a problem

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor,

I must apologize for putting a wooden rail or fence along the highway side of the Bowens Prairie Cemetery.

I failed to get the county put on the historical site list partly because of the wooden fence. I’ll remove it.

I also want to thank Brad Geerdes and his wife for continuing to put up the U.S. flags along the highway on our holidays. I still have people tell me, “The flags are up today at Bowens Prairie.” It’s a pleasant thing to hear.

The Jones County Historical Society or some other county group must take steps to stop this vandalism that continues to take place at the cemetery.

The accompanying photo posted behind glass, the glass is now gone, leaving just the empty frame.
