Finalists named in Open 4 Business grant

The finalists in the Main Street Iowa 2023 Open 4 Business grant contest have been named.

Monticello, IA Main Street congratulates the communities of West Branch, Mount Vernon, Keokuk, Ottumwa, and Cedar Rapids for being selected. Monticello’s Spahn & Rose Lumber Company, with its design center project, did not advance.

“While we didn’t make it to finals, I’m thrilled with the experience,” stated Monticello Main Street Director Brian Wolken. “Advancing past the first round in our first year is something to be proud of.”

The finalists will compete for the grand prize of $20,000 in Sioux City on Aug. 1 at the annual Iowa Downtown Conference.

“The partnership and local resources provided during the Open 4 Business grant changed my perspective on Monticello Main Street and the services and opportunities they provide,” stated Spahn & Rose Manager Craig Coder. “It was a great experience partnering with Main Street, and it helped us focus on the need for a design center, and we hope to implement it in the future.”

The Open 4 Business grant occurs annually. If you have a business expansion project you’d like to discuss, reach out to Monticello, IA Main Street at 319-465-1970.
