On Sept. 14, team members from F&M Bank attended separate awards banquets to receive two separate awards – a Corridor Business Journal “Coolest Place to Work” award and the Des Moines Register “Top 100 Workplaces in Iowa” award.

For the third year in a row, team members have honored F&M Bank by voting them as the “Coolest Place to Work.”

Tirzah Wedewer, senior vice president & CFO said, “The continued appearance on the list is a testament to our commitment to creating the best work environment possible. We do no rest on our laurels when it comes to providing our team members with an environment that is rewarding and progressive.”

The Des Moines Register surveys employees from companies across Iowa, and after analyzing the results, identified F&M and Security Savings Banks as a Top 100 Workplace in Iowa.

“The great thing about this award is that it is a direct reflection of how our team members feel about our organization, their work environment, and the culture we have worked hard to create,” stated Deann McDonald, executive vice president Human Relations. “We have a great team and it’s nice to know our team marks F&M Bank as a best place to work.”

F&M Bank has worked hard to create a culture that makes a difference to their employees. Employee mentoring, health and wellness activities, volunteerism and a robust personal time-off program are some of the things our team members value. Work-life balance is important. We all have commitments outside of the bank with family and personal interests; therefore time away from the bank is encouraged by the executive team. The opportunity to get away, unplug and recharge is important for everyone. It not only helps the employee, but it gives other team members an opportunity for growth in their daily responsibilities.

Our bank created a “team first mentality” by encouraging mentorship and providing opportunities for professional growth. Add a few “cool factors” and you have a culture rich in camaraderie and engagement. These “cool factors” are what draw team members to the organizations, but the dedication of our team, community and clients are what keep them at F&M Bank.

F&M works hard to develop teams that will not only perform at a higher level at work, but will want to spend time together outside of the office. Team members know each other’s families and often times are in the same social circles. This interaction creates much stronger working relationships. Whether it is a county fair, a community gathering or the annual employee picnic, team members take the time to get to know each other on a deeper level. Employees value their role at F&M Bank as well as the people with whom they work.

Nate Dunn, senior vice president and chief credit officer, defines what makes F&M a “cool place to work:” “Showing appreciation and valuing our clients, as well as our team members is a part of everything we do. If we achieve that each and every day, we know that our employees, our clients and our organizations will continue to thrive.”

F&M is a family owned bank and the importance of family resonates throughout the culture. Locally owned for 90 years, F&M currently has three generations of the Dunn family involved in the management and operations of the bank. F&M Bank is proud of its rich heritage.
