      Freda M. DeLarm, 88, of Maquoketa, passed away on Thursday morning, March 19, 2020, at Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa.

      A private family graveside service and burial celebrating her life will take place on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello.  A private family visitation will be held at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  Please feel free to call or stop at the funeral home with notes of condolence or leave words of comfort on the funeral home website at www.CarsonAndSon.com.       Freda Mable Covington was born on Aug. 28, 1931 in rural Central City, Iowa, to Julian Lester and Bessie (Moyer) Covington.  She attended country school in Langworthy and then Monticello High School.  She married Gerald “Jerry” DeLarm on March 25, 1951 in Monticello.  

      Freda had first worked at a dime store in Monticello and then for Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids and later Anamosa.  She also farmed with her husband in Langworthy and lastly Monmouth until July of 2018 when they moved to Maquoketa.

      Freda was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Monmouth.  She was a very easy going and loving person.  She loved her family, bowling, dancing, roller skating, flowers and gardening, birds, animals, camping and fishing.  She always enjoyed socializing and they camped for over 30 years traveling all over the United States with friends and family.     

      Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Gerald “Jerry” DeLarm of Maquoketa; children, Gary (Pam) DeLarm of Maquoketa, Dale (and the late Marjorie) DeLarm of Delmar, and Kathleen (John) Martin of Bernard; a step-son, Brad (Janet) Petersen of North Liberty; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; a brother, Eldon (and special friend Sylvia) Covington of Anamosa; a sister Belva Covington of Monticello; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Galen and Lawrence, sisters Wilma, Hilda and Margaret, and a great-grandson Tyler.

      In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Jackson County or the Faith United Methodist Church in Monmouth.
