Generations of memories at Mon Maq Dam

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor,

I have had a strong attachment to the Mon Maq Dam since childhood with memories of fishing, swimming, and canoeing with my family. My father was there to witness the dam as it was being built in 1913. He told me the river was re-routed during the construction. Then the site was excavated and the dam was anchored in the bedrock.

It is strong and not going anywhere. It’s been there all these years. I don’t want to see it go.

I speak for my grandchildren and great grandchildren who are making new memories there so they can continue to share this heritage and local history.

I will be at the public meeting on April 4 with many others who feel as I do. It is our task to preserve this treasure we have been given and my hope that the historical Mon Maq Dam will be saved.
