      Gerald J. Muller, 89, of Monticello, passed away Friday, Nov. 27, 2020 at Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with his family by his side.

      A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  Rev Paul Baldwin will officiate.  Masks are mandatory and social distancing will be followed.  Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery.  The service will be live streamed on the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Facebook page.

      Gerald was born May 20, 1931, in Monticello, the son of Walter and Veda (Podhaski) Muller.  He married Lorena Donovan on Sept. 27, 1956.  Jerry farmed all his life in the Castle Grove area.  He served on several committees in the community.  Jerry loved antique tractor pulling back in the day. Jerry welcomed spectators to his yard for the 4th of July parade and the Great Jones County Fair was a great time for him, he never missed it.  A daily routine was spending time with his friends at Darrell’s Restaurant. 

      He is survived by his children, Maureen (Al Freiburger) DeShaw of Delhi, Randy (Denise) Muller of Monticello, Jolynn Covington and Ronnie Muller both of Cedar Rapids, grandchildren; Jason (Krystle) DeShaw, Jamie (Clayton) Noe, Karissa Muller, Kayla (Alex) Schockemoehl, Kenley (Nick) Hunter, Blake Muller, Emilee Muller, Ayva Muller, Madison Muller, Josh (Christy) Covington, great-grandchildren; Bella, Elsie, Mya, Millie, Lincoln, Sienna, Rilynn, Briella, and one due in February, special friend, Ruth Harms, siblings; Virginia Steiner, Carl (Mary) Muller, James (Mary Ann) Muller, and Patsy Wernimont.

      He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Lorena, son Rodney, siblings, William Muller, and Janet Rink.

      Special thanks to his caregivers, Russ Clapp, Tammy Beemer and the staff at the Monticello Nursing and Rehab for the excellent care they showed to Jerry.
